Not content with having the tallest building in America , the owners of Willis Tower in Chicago have installed four glass box viewing platforms which stick out of the building 103 floors up.
The balconies are suspended 1,353 feet in the air and just out four feet from the building's Skydeck.

Designers say the platforms - collectively dubbed The Ledge - have been purposely created to make visitors feel as they are floating above the city. The reward is unobstructed views of Chicago from the building's west side and a heart-stopping vista of the street and Chicago River below - for those brave enough to look straight down. It's like walking on ice.
John Huston, one of the owners of the Willis Tower, even admitted to getting 'a little queasy' when he ventured out on to the balcony. However, after 30 or 40 trips, he seems to have gotten used to it.
Long way up: Even the floor of the platforms are glass - few are brave enough to look straight down. Although some adults felt dizzy after experiencing The Ledge, children seemed to take it in their stride.

The Ledge is the world's most awesome view, the world's most precipitous view, the view with the most wow in the world. The balconies are 10ft high and 10ft wide, can hold five tons, and have glass which is 1.5 inch thick.
Architect Ross Wimer said: 'We did studies that showed a 4' X 4' deep enclosure makes you feel like you're detached from the building particularly since there's only room for one row of people.'
The Ledge is accessible from The Skydeck which attracts 25,000 visitors on clear days. They each pay $15 to take an elevator ride up to the 103rd floor of the 110-story office building that opened in 1973.
After seeing this I think I will have a glass of wine and sit in my sturdy,favorite chair.

Inspiration came from the hundreds of forehead prints visitors left behind on The Skydeck windows every week. Now, staff have a new glass surface to clean: floors!

Think differently and positively.
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building
with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"
The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way."
I wrote: "Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it."
Both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people that they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?
Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.
When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear. Keep the faith and drop the fear.

Ibu
Sang ibu muda, melangkahkan kakinya di jalan kehidupan.
'Apakah jalannya jauh?' tanyanya. Pemandunya menjawab: 'Ya, dan jalannya berat.
Kamu akan jadi tua sebelum mencapai akhir perjalanan ini...
Tapi akhirnya lebih bagus dari pada awalnya.'
Tetapi ibu muda itu sedang bahagia. Ia tidak percaya bahwa akan ada yang lebih baik Dari pada tahun-tahun ini. Karena itu dia main dengan anak-anaknya, mengumpulkan bunga-bunga untuk mereka Sepanjang jalan dan memandikan mereka di aliran sungai yang jernih. Mata hari bersinar atas mereka. Dan ibu muda itu berseru: 'Tak ada yang bisa lebih indah daripada ini.' Lalu malam tiba bersama badai. Jalannya gelap, anak-anak gemetar ketakutan dan ketakutan. Ibu itu memeluk mereka dan menyelimuti mereka dengan mantolnya. Anak-anak itu berkata: 'Ibu, kami tidak takut, karena ibu ada dekat. Tak ada yang dapat menyakiti kami.' Dan fajar menjelang.. Ada bukit menjulang di depan mereka. Anak-anak memanjat dan menjadi lelah. Ibunya juga lelah. Tetapi ia terus berkata kepada anak-anaknya: 'Sabar sedikit lagi, kita hampir sampai.' Demikianlah anak-anak itu memanjat terus. Saat sampai di puncak, mereka berkata: 'Ibu, kami tak mungkin melakukannya tanpa ibu.' Dan sang ibu, saat ia berbaring malam hari dan menatap bintang-bintang, berkata: 'Hari ini lebih baik dari pada yang lalu. Karena anak-anakku sudah belajar daya tahan Menghadapi beban hidup. Kemarin malam aku memberi mereka keberanian. Hari ini saya Memberi mereka kekuatan.' Keesokan harinya, ada awan aneh yang menggelapkan bumi. Awan perang, kebencian dan kejahatan. Anak-anak itu meraba-raba dan tersandung-sandung dalam gelap. Ibunya berkata: 'Lihat keatas. Arahkan matamu kepada sinar.' Anak-anak menengadah dan melihat diatas awan-awan ada kemuliaan abadi Yang menuntun mereka melalui kegelapan. Dan malam harinya ibu itu berkata: 'Ini hari yang terbaik. Karena saya sudah memperlihatkan Allah kepada anak-anakku. Hari berganti minggu, bulan, dan tahun. Ibu itu menjadi tua, dia kecil dan bungkuk. Tetapi anak-anaknya tinggi dan kuat dan berjalan dengan gagah berani. Saat jalannya sulit, mereka membopongnya; karena ia seringan bulu. Akhirnya mereka sampai ke sebuah bukit. Dan di kejauhan mereka melihat Sebuah jalan yang bersinar dan pintu gerbang emas terbuka lebar. Ibu berkata: 'Saya sudah sampai pada akhir perjalananku. Dan sekarang saya tahu, akhir ini lebih baik dari pada awalnya. Karena anak-anakku dapat berjalan sendiri dan anak-anak mereka ada di belakang mereka.' Dan anak-anaknya menjawab: "Ibu selalu akan berjalan bersama kami... Meski ibu sudah pergi melewati pintu gerbang itu.' Mereka berdiri, melihat ibu mereka berjalan sendiri... dan pintu gerbang itu menutup sesudah ia lewat. Dan mereka berkata: "Kita tak dapat melihat ibu lagi. Tetapi dia masih bersama kita. Ibu seperti ibu kita, lebih dari sekedar kenangan. Ia senantiasa hadir dan hidup. Ibumu selalu bersamamu…. Ia adalah bisikan daun saat kau berjalan di jalan Ia adalah bau pengharum di kaus kakimu yang baru dicuci Dialah tangan sejuk di keningmu saat engkau sakit. Ibumu hidup dalam tawa candamu. Ia terkristal dalam tiap tetes air mata. Dia lah tempat engkau datang, dia rumah pertamamu. Dia adalah peta yang kau ikuti pada tiap langkahmu/ Ia adalah cinta pertama dan patah hati pertamamu. Tak ada di dunia yang dapat memisahkan kalian. Tidak waktu, ruang, bahkan tidak juga kematian! |
